Ciudad Bolívar

The city of Ciudad Bolivar is located in the north-eastern part of Venezuela, on the banks of the Orinoco River. It was founded in 1764 and was named as the San Tomas de la Nueva Guayana, also known as Angostura. Later it was renamed in honor of the national hero Simon Bolivar, who took an active part in the struggle for the freedom of the state from the colonial regime.

Ciudad Bolívar is considered a historical city. Here you will find yourself in a maze of narrow streets, colorful houses in the style of the colonial era. Among them is the house of San Isidro of the 18th century, where once more than once stayed Simon Bolivar. Today it is a museum where you can learn about life in colonial times. The pride of the city is a giant bridge over the Orinoco River, which was built in 1967. At the time of such an engineering design was not unique in all of Latin America.
